Counting mats are used to monitor traffic and people flows in order to ensure the safety of people, optimize space occupancy, prioritize resources for better service, etc.
They have proven themselves at numerous sporting, cultural, religious and professional events, as well as in museums, places of worship, universities and office buildings.
The Olympic Flame
To monitor flows on the Olympic Flame site, 65 counting mats were installed outside for a period of two months.
The objective: to monitor the main passages of the general public and VIP visitors, both for security and safety reasons, but also to know in real time the number of people present on the site.
This solution also made it possible to measure the attendance and interest of the public in order to discover this symbol of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as closely as possible.
The Paléo Festival
A proscenium has been set up to host the Indochine concert. This pit, open to the public, was limited to 800 people.
After a benchmark of several technological solutions, only the one based on counting mats proved to be reliable and adapted to the constraints of the site. Thanks to this solution, the security teams were able to precisely control the access gauge throughout the concerts, and guarantee the safety of Indochine fans.
Some figures obtained:
During the Paléo Festival 2024, 262,215 visitors were counted over six days, i.e. an average of 40,887 visitors per day, with an average time of presence of 5:23 hours on site.
The 2021 Fifa Arab Cup
As part of the preparation for the World Cup, Qatar has deployed the counting carpet solution in order to optimize visitor flows and strengthen security.
Installed at the entrances of metro stations leading to the stadiums, our counting mats made it possible to quickly identify high-traffic areas, thus facilitating the adjustment of transport and safety devices for visitors and spectators.
This experience, conducted during the Arab Cup, provided key lessons to improve flow management and ensure the safety of visitors during the World Cup.
The Islamic Arts Biennial
Optimizing the visitor experience as well as measuring the success of an exhibition or the commitment generated by each work of art represent the main challenges of cultural spaces.
On behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia as well as the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, Technis and Intechfloor equipped the Jeddah Islamic Arts Biennial, which is being held from January 25 to May 25, 2025. With 1.5 million visitors expected over 4 months, the Ministry of Culture as well as the Diriyah Biennale Foundation have chosen counting mat solutions and several 3D sensors to obtain a real-time view of visitors throughout the Biennale. They also have an additional project to monitor the commitment of visitors to all the works.
The main entrances and exits have been equipped, as well as 5 galleries and 2 pavilions. In total, around fifty mats were deployed and connected, as well as a few 3D sensors to obtain more complex “group size” data.
Sciences Po campuses
True hives, universities are, on an even larger scale than office spaces, places surveyed from all sides.
Whether students travel alone or in groups, optimizing travel, scheduling the reservation of classrooms and amphitheaters, as well as security, are major challenges for many campuses.
Sciences Po wanted to equip four of its campuses in order to monitor entrances and exits, university restaurants, amphitheaters, and air quality in particular. Several counting mats and 3D sensors provided by Intechfloor and Technis have been installed, and all the data is transmitted in real time to their security PC.
Thanks to the Technis Counting application, attendance alerts are sent, and it is possible to track gauges of overuse and underuse of campus facilities and spaces.
